Jamshedpur, April 6: An accused youth in the jail quarantine centre, Yash Sharma attempted suicide in the toilet by hanging himself with his towel. The police personnel on duty managed to thwart his attempt and rushed him to MGM Hospital for treatment. Yash was seen writhing on the hospital floor.
Yash’s relatives went to MGM Hospital on being informed and accused the police of torturing him. Yash was accused of eve teasing and entering into a fight and the police arrested him on Sunday last. He was sent to judicial custody from where he was put in the jail quarantine centre in Sakchi.
Yash Sharma’s relatives said that they had gone to the jail quarantine centre to give him some essentials. There they saw policemen hitting him with their elbows and taking him somewhere. They stated that they also observed a mark around Yash’s neck. They said that the police had beaten him severely.
However, Jail Superintendent Narendra Prasad Singh said that Yash Sharma had tried to hang himself with his towel in the jail toilet. The policemen noticed him and rushed to rescue him. He stated that the police personnel rushed Yash to MGM Hospital. Narendra Prasad Singh said a case will be constituted as per legal provisions in connection with the suicide attempt by Yash Sharma at the jail quarantine centre.
