Musician Sumant Mohanty Murder Case: 5th Accused Nabbed From Pune; Absconded Since 2008 – odisha First
Bhubaneswar: Close on the heels of the arrest of 1999 Barang gang rape’s prime accused Biban Biswal from Mumbai-Pune area after 22 years, Commissionerate Police today scripted another success by apprehending the fifth accused involved in the murder of musician Sumant Mohanty in 2008.
Briefing media today, Twin City Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi informed, “We have recently launched a special drive against the absconders in old cases. We have been successful in an extremely sensitive murder case of 2008 committed in Mancheswar area in which a famous music director Sumant Mohanty was killed. His dead body was later seized from a car from Chakeisiani-Plasuni road patch. In the course of investigation, four main accused had been arrested then. The brutal murder had been fallout of a past enmity during their study period at Sangeet Mahavidyalaya here.”
“Even though four accused were arrested, the fifth accused was absconding since 2008. His name is Bikramaditya Jena. Soon after the murder case, he had escaped to Pune. As he was a technically qualified person, he got a job as gym trainer there. He used to maintain occasional contacts with his family members. When his mother was seriously ill in 2017, he was in close contact with his family,” he further informed.
Police commissioner stated
The Police Commissioner stated, “This arrest is definitely significant because the fifth accused (Bikramaditya Jena) played a pivotal role in the brutal murder as well as disposing of the body. The Special Squad of our Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) has arrested him and we’ll very soon forward him to court today.”
